Quality and sound

Even out the loudness of a whole folder

Your tracks come from different places and some sound much louder than others. You want them all at a similar level.

Settings, just once

Open Surco's Settings (⌘ , on Mac) and find each option by its name.

  • SettingsProcessingLoudness normalizationStreaming −14

The level of Spotify and Apple Music, safe for listening. For the booth, “Club −9”.

  • SettingsOutputWhere converted tracks goNext to the originalOptional

The evened-out tracks are saved alongside and the originals are left alone.

Then, each time

  1. 1

    Drag the folder into Surco

Tracks in its subfolders come in too.

  2. 2

See what will happen to a track

Open any of them. The “What will happen to this track” card says how much it goes up or down and whether peaks need limiting.

  3. 3

    Click “Convert”

They're all evened out with the setting above, except the ones you changed by hand in the editor.

  • The peak ceiling defaults to −1 dBTP. It's a safety limit, not a second target.
  • If getting there takes a lot of limiting, the card warns you some punch is lost.
  • Evening out re-encodes the audio. Before doing it over an MP3, Surco asks you.
  • Saving an evened-out track again doesn't raise it again.
  • Traktor cue points are kept, except in ALAC.
