Tag and tidy up

Remove repeated tracks from Apple Music

Mac only

You have the same song twice, maybe one as an MP3 and one as an AIFF, each in its own playlists. You want to keep the good one without losing the other one's playlists.

Settings, just once

Open Surco's Settings (⌘ , on Mac) and find each option by its name.

  • SettingsOutputrekordbox collectionUpdate the rekordbox collection when convertingOnOptional

If you use rekordbox. You'll see which copy has cues and playlists there, and its playlists move to the one you keep.

  • SettingsOutputEngine DJ libraryUpdate the Engine DJ library when convertingOnOptional

If you use Engine DJ. You'll see which copy has cues and playlists there, and its playlists move to the one you keep.

  • SettingsOutputTraktor collectionUpdate the Traktor collection when convertingOnOptional

If you use Traktor. You'll see which copy has cues and playlists there, and its playlists move to the one you keep.

Then, each time

  1. 1

    Open the duplicates

From the File menu, or with ⌘K, choose “Show duplicates in Apple Music…”.

  2. 2

    Compare the copies

Each shows its format, when you added it and what it has in your DJ apps. “Copy title” helps you look it up.

  3. 3

    Pick the one to keep

Surco marks the best format to start with. Change it if you like and click “Remove”.

  4. 4

    Click “Apply”

    At the top, then confirm.

  • The copy you keep joins the other one's playlists, in Apple Music and in your DJ apps.
  • The cue points of the copy you remove don't move to the other. Check which one has cues before you choose.
  • The removed file goes to the Trash, or to Backups on a disk with no Trash, like a NAS.
  • “Undo” doesn't bring removed copies back. If you get it wrong, the file is still in the Trash or in Backups.
