Take it with you

Your music on a NAS

You keep your music on a network drive and work with it from Surco, on Mac or Windows.

Settings, just once

Open Surco's Settings (⌘ , on Mac) and find each option by its name.

  • SettingsNamingFile names without accentsOnOptional

Writes “Royksopp” instead of “Röyksopp” in the file name, handy for searching the NAS. Tags keep their accents.

  • SettingsOutputBackupsWhat gets keptOnly when the audio changes

That's the default. A NAS has no Trash, so what you delete goes to Backups.

Then, each time

  1. 1

    Drag the NAS folder in

The first load of a big library takes a bit longer. Tracks keep appearing while it reads.

  2. 2

    Tag and convert as usual

Everything works the same as on your computer's own disk.

  3. 3

Before deleting, check where it goes

Surco tells you where each file will go before you confirm.

  • If you pick “Never” under “What gets kept”, deleting a file from the NAS is permanent. Surco warns you first.
  • Backups last 7 days, take up to 2 GB and always leave 5 GB free.
  • A new track in a watched NAS folder can take a few minutes to show up.
